True Bluetooth Connectivity (No USB Receiver)
The defining feature of the M196 is that it is a pure Bluetooth mouse. Unlike the M185 or M171 which require a USB dongle, the M196 talks directly to your computer’s Bluetooth radio. This is a game-changer for users of modern laptops like the MacBook Air M1/M2/M3 or the new Dell XPS series, which often only have USB-C ports. You don’t need an ugly adapter or hub hanging off the side of your laptop just to use a mouse. You pair it once, and it remembers your device forever.
Precision Optical Tracking
The M196 uses a 1000 DPI optical sensor that is calibrated for “real world” surfaces. In Kenya, you might not always have a mousepad. You might be working on a glossy cafeteria table, a wooden desk, or even a notebook cover. The sensor ensures the cursor doesn’t jump or jitter. It provides smooth, controlled cursor movement that is essential for highlighting text, navigating complex spreadsheets, or precise photo editing.
Sustainable Engineering
Logitech is leading the charge in green tech. The M196 in Graphite is made with 67% post-consumer recycled plastic. This isn’t just a marketing gimmick; it means the plastic from old electronics has been processed and reused to create a durable, high-quality chassis. By choosing the M196, you are actively reducing e-waste. It feels just as solid and premium as virgin plastic but with a much lower carbon footprint.
Compact & Ambidextrous
The shape of the M196 is designed for “mobile comfort.” It is small enough to slip into a laptop sleeve without creating a bulge, yet contoured enough to support your hand. It features a fully symmetrical design, meaning it is perfectly comfortable for both left and right-handed users. The buttons have a subtle groove to keep your fingers centered, and the mechanical scroll wheel has a tactile “notch” feel for accurate scrolling through long documents.
Smart Power Management
To achieve 12 months of battery life on a single AA battery, the M196 uses aggressive power-saving protocols. It doesn’t just stay “on.” When you stop moving it, it enters a light sleep. If you leave your desk for lunch, it enters a deep sleep. This happens instantly and wakes up instantly, so you never notice it. It effectively eliminates the “battery anxiety” associated with wireless peripherals.
Who Is This Perfect For?
- The MacBook/Ultrabook User: You have a laptop with only USB-C ports. You hate using dongles. The M196 connects directly via Bluetooth, keeping your setup clean and wire-free.
- The Tablet Power User: You use an iPad or Android tablet for work. Touching the screen constantly is tiring. The M196 pairs with your tablet, turning it into a mini-laptop for typing and navigation.
